Since 1977 Off The Record volunteers have been supporting young people aged 11-25 by providing free informal support, information via the phone, face to face counselling, email and drop in service.

We offer volunteering opportunities for those who have a genuine interest in supporting young people even if they have no previous training.

We welcome people at all stages of their counselling training and for those undertaking college/university courses. Our volunteering can offer:

· support worker roles helping to run the appointment system, phoning clients on the waiting list, provide information, drop-in support to regular visitors and one-off attendees and conduct introduction sessions (all volunteers are expected to undertake this role when the initially join the organisation)

· valuable opportunities for providing voluntary 1:1 counselling

· course/diploma counselling hours

· opportunities to support group sessions

· and other tasks to support the running of the charity such as admin, fundraising, promotional work and trusteeship

Anyone interested in volunteering with us, regardless of previous qualifications or experience must complete Off The Record's in-house BAV selection/training programme. The BAV comprises a comprehensive 4 day course and covers skills development as well as key policies and procedures to equip volunteers to start volunteering with us as a Support Worker.

Those successfully completing the BAV will join the weekly rota (min 2½ hours) during advertised opening hours and attend a monthly group support supervision meeting (1½ hrs per month) For anyone interested in offering 1:1 counselling you will usually need to complete several months in a support role, and then apply for the skills assessment training. Those who are interested in groupwork will transfer to the groupwork team following the BAV.
